For horses and ponies in their senior years, providing the best quality of life is important and is often at the forefront of many owners’ minds. Many veteran equines are still ridden or even competing into their latter years. This workshop will teach you about the common problems we see in our older population enabling you to recognise the signs of illness or disease earlier.
Saying goodbye to a much-loved family friend can be incredibly hard – but getting the timing of euthanasia right is vital. It is important to objectively judge your horses quality of life to help you decide when euthanasia is the kindest option. As a yard owner supporting your friends, or an individual horse owner, we feel there is much to be gained from preparing for this heart-breaking scenario and we want to enable you to be as equipped as you can be to do so.
- Learn how to care for older equines; the clinical conditions that affect them and the signs to look out for
- Learn what you can do to make your old friend more comfortable if they are dealing with a chronic condition
- Preparing to say goodbye – how do you know when the time is right, what should you consider, what should you expect
